Numbers 1:1a; 2a; 5; 45a; and 46 (NKJV)
“Now the Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai; ‘Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel’; ‘These are the names of the men who shall stand with you: from Reuben, Elizur the son of Shedeur’; So all who were numbered of the children of Israel; all who were numbered were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.”
Please forgive the splicing of the verses, I encourage you to read the entire first chapter of Numbers. Do you see it? The Lord spoke to Moses about specific individuals. He named them by name. He knew their names and had a job for them to do. Each was just one person out of over 600,000 people. Don’t ever think God doesn’t know who you are… or that He doesn’t see you.
It is easier sometimes to believe a lie. It is easy to think that you are hidden and unknown… a nobody. Not much to see here. Believing a lie is never good and is actually a sin. There are places in scripture that talk about how God knows you. It strikes me how, even here in Numbers (of all places) God calls specific names. They are not the names of the patriarchs. They are not names of those who did “great things for God.” But they are men who God knew, and for whom He had an assignment.
This man was Elizur. His name is mentioned a few more times in the coming chapters. If God knew him, He knows you. I guarantee it. Your “assignment” may not be huge in man’s eyes. But God knows exactly who you are, where you are, and what He wants you to do in the middle of all the millions and millions of people on this planet. Be encouraged. You are not unknown to God.
