Joel 2:28 (NKJV)
“And it shall come to pass afterward, That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions.”
In the book of Joel, Israel has just experienced a plague of locust that has totally destroyed every living thing that is green. There is nothing left in the fields. There is nothing left on the vines. Not only did they not have grain and drink for their sustenance, they also had no way to make their daily grain and drink offerings to The Lord. Because of their unfaithful hearts, The Lord, through the small instrument of locusts, had removed their ability to worship Him.
Joel instructs them to strip bare their hearts in humble repentance and turn to God. Then he prophesies of the future destruction that will one day come to all the nations and the ultimate restoration of Israel.
The United States is not Israel but God has, none the less, blessed us. If we take Joel to heart, understanding the character of God, is there any reason why God would not restore our country if we each, individually, truly repented of our sin? Our God is a merciful God. Given the truth we see now over the last few years, is there any doubt that He is slow to anger? Could it be He is giving us this time to repent so that He might show favor once again?
If we pour out our heart to Him, if we turn from our sin and resolve to live Godly lives before Him, if we seek Him with all our heart, I believe He will give us each an assignment. Despite the devastating circumstances taking place today, He will provide the “grain and drink” so we may make our daily offering to Him. The Holy Spirit will enable some to prophesy, and to others He will give dreams or visions. What is He nudging you toward? What is your role? Has He already been speaking to your heart about what He wants you to do? We each have an assignment that will ultimately serve as a critical chess piece on the board of our world. It will take each of us doing our part for God to move.
Just as God restored Israel’s vegetation so that they might once again make daily offerings to their God, I believe He will use the measures of faith and gifts He has given each of us to do His work in these days.
Will you join me? What does that look like in your life? Will you turn loose of the baggage of this world and take hold of God with both hands? Will you seek Him? Will you ask Him for an assignment? Will you resolve to follow through? Will you let Him speak through you? Will you ask Him to give you a dream? Will you ask Him to give you a vision? Let Him set the goal for your life in the coming days and let’s get after it. The time is now. What is your dream?
