Revelation 4:11 (NKJV)
“You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.”
Do you know the circumstances of your birth? You may have been told that you were an “accident”. You may have learned that you were a “surprise”. Maybe your birth was actually planned. No matter the circumstances of our birth, most of us, at some point in time, question why we are here. How you answer that question will likely determine your outlook and approach to life.
To put it plainly, we are here because God wants us to be here. That may sound overly simple or perhaps like something that would make you want to roll your eyes, but this is a deep and profound truth that, once grasped, can change our lives. This place, this point in time, it is God’s choice that we are here.
We know, based on the account in Genesis, that God is the creator of all things. But this verse in Revelation includes the past and present. It says we “exist” – that is the present. Then it says that we “were created” and that is the past. Don’t pass over the fact that it is God’s will that brings it all about. True, by His will everything was created in Genesis but it is by His will it all still exists. He continues to hold it all together. That present tense word, “exist” is where we are today and, if we wake up tomorrow, we will still be in a present-tense state of existence.
So you see, if the Bible is true, and I believe it is, then it is God who, as an act of His will, determined that you would be born, and it is God who gives you every breath and every beat of your heart every day. It is God who sustains your life.
So why are you here? You are here for more than just work, play, money, friends and family. You are more than all of that. You are here because God, in His love, wants you to be here. Don’t miss out on knowing your Creator. Don’t miss the opportunity to know the love of the God who made you. It is how we are intended to live, in relationship with our Creator. That is His will for us. The question is, will we fulfill His intent?
If God created us and it is His will that we exist, then we must recognize that we are no accident, no surprise, and no mere plan of a man or woman. We are here because God wants us here. Once we accept that, we can begin to live in the purpose and plan He has for us. Don’t miss it. Seek to know your Creator. He is ready and waiting. He is the one who created you, sustains you, has plans for you and knows all of the other reasons why you are here.
